ST JOHN AMBULANCE
St John Ambulance believes that everyone who needs it should receive first aid from those around them. No one should suffer for the lack of trained first aiders. Their aim is to provide an effective and efficient charitable first aid service to local communities; to provide training and products to satisfy first aid and related health and safety needs for all of society and to encourage personal development for people of all ages, through training and by membership of the organisation.

ST CATHERINE’S HOSPICE
St Catherine’s Hospice is a charity dedicated to providing specialised end of life care and support to local people, their families, friends and carers. For over 25 St Catherine’s have provided high quality hospice care, free of charge, to people living in Crawley, Horsham and Mid Sussex. In April 2009 St Catherine’s became the local provider of end of life care for people with incurable illnesses in the Tandridge area. Hospice care is based on the belief that each person is more than their illness, and has unique physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs. St Catherine’s responds to the needs of each individual, helping people achieve the best possible quality of life.

CATERHAM OVERSEAS AID TRUST (COAT)
Since its formation in 1981 COAT has raised over £280,000 to help people in poverty in third world countries help themselves via agencies working on the ground such as Water Aid, Self Help Africa, VSO, TWAM, Tools for Self-Reliance, Tree Aid, Sightsavers, Practical Action. COAT is run entirely by an enthusiastic band of local volunteers, and draws much support from local Churches. COAT is one of nine such organisations in the South-east of England, all aiming to help poorer people in third-world countries to help themselves and improve their lives.

THE MILLER CENTRE THEATRE COMPANY REFURBISHMENT FUND
The Theatre needs to look to the future and gradually build up the refurbishment fund for the replacement of the auditorium seating and carpets and redecoration, probably to be undertaken around 2015. The Theatre needs to be maintained to a good standard to keep it as a viable resource for the local community. As a charity, funds need to be gathered over the next few years to enable the theatre to compete with other modern venues.

MOTOR NEURONE DISEASE (MNDA) East Surrey Branch
The MND Association is the only national charity in England, Wales and Northern Ireland that funds and promotes global research into the disease and provides support for people affected by MND. The Association was formed in 1979 by a group of volunteers who wanted to co-ordinate support, guidance and advice for people affected by the illness.

ST MARY’S CATERHAM, CHURCH HALL RENOVATION
This church hall was built in the 1960’s and provides a much needed community function on the Hill. The Church uses it during services for the younger members and afterwards for refreshments. During the week it is used by a variety of groups such as Mother and Toddler, Brownies, Guides, Weightwatchers, painting, singing and discussion groups and the University of the Third Age. The hall was built as a temporary measure and expected to last 25 years. Now double that period the building is structurally sound but needs refurbishment to keep it going for another 50 years. Costs are estimated at £130,000 of which the Church has £50,000. The remaining £80,000 is being raised by a variety of events.

MENCAP (CROYDON)
Croydon Mencap works to promote the interests of people with learning disabilities and their families. It provides an after school club for children, day services for young adults, work opportunities in the charity shop, assessment / support for older carers, clubs run in the evenings and Saturdays and welfare benefit advice. Local branches do not receive money from Mencap central so are entirely dependent on donations and grants made specifically to them at the local level. Croydon Mencap hopes to expand the support and services it provides by centralising to a property in Thornton Heath and therefore will require additional funds.

EAST SURREY DIAL-A-RIDE
ESDAR provides a door-to-door transport service each weekday for about 500 elderly and the disabled who, due to mobility impairment, are precluded from using public transport. ESDAR uses 6 wheelchair accessible minibuses to operate this service, employing paid staff to carry out day-to-day operational duties. Volunteers act as Trustees and carry out administrative duties.

THE DIAMOND CENTRE FOR DISABLED RIDERS
The Diamond Centre provides therapeutic riding and carriage driving for children and adults with disabilities as part of the Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA). The Centre exists to provide disabled people with the opportunity to ride, carriage drive or vault at the level of their ability to benefit their health and well being.
